1. I've moved to another county/state. Do I still have to report for jury duty?

No. The "qualifications" section of the jury card states that the prospective juror "must be a citizen of this State and County and qualified to vote." The potential juror would be disqualified for that reason. The individual still needs to return the jury card with the appropriate box checked.

3. How much do you charge for paper copies?

Per Local Government Code 118.001, the charge for paper copies is $1.00 per page and a $5.00 charge for certification if the copies need to be certified.

4. How do I file an appeal from J.P./Municipal Court?

Appeals from lower courts must be filed in the lower court where the case originated.

5. Where do I make Probation payments?

Probation payments are made at the Probation Department.

6. What do I need to do to get my driver's license reinstated?

This is really a question for DPS. The defendant is sometimes required by the court to take certain classes. If the requirement for the class is reported to DPS, but the defendant does not take the class or does not provide a certificate of completion, DPS will suspend the defendant's license. Sometimes, proof of completion of the course is all that is necessary. The defendant should call DPS if he/she does not know why his/her license has been suspended or if he/she has any questions regarding reinstatement. This can get rather complicated and cannot be completely answered here.

7. Can you tell me how to file my own court case?

We are not attorneys and are prohibited by law from giving any legal advice. We cannot give you instructions on filing your case or answer any questions on the accuracy of your papers or how to present your case to the judge. If you intend to represent yourself, without the assistance of an attorney, you must have the knowledge to prepare and file the proper pleadings and present your case to the court. We advise you to consult an attorney if you have any questions or are unsure as to what you need to do.

8. What do I do if I don't have a lawyer?

The Judge will address this question when the defendant appears for his/her first court setting for an Arraignment Docket/First Appearance Docket, along with other information and instructions. It is important to be in the courtroom at the appointed time.

9. What do I need to do to have my cash bond returned?

Due to the different versions of bonds and different situations, this question must be answered on an individual basis. You may call the County Clerk's office at 512-943-1150 for information regarding the return of cash bond money for a misdemeanor criminal case.

Court costs vary by case type, disposition type, and other factors. The defendant may call our office at 512-943-1150 to inquire about his/her fees.

13. How can I change my court date?

Requests for court date changes must be made through the Court where the case has been filed. The Clerk's office cannot change court dates

14. When is my court date?

15. What is my/my client's cause number?

The defendant or his/her attorney may look up the case on the Judicial Records Website or call our office at (512) 943-1150 for the cause number assigned to his/her criminal case.

16. Which court is my case in?

The defendant may call our office at (512) 943-1150 regarding the court to which his/her case has been assigned. Usually this information may be found on the notice to appear in court.

20. How do I contact the County Clerk's Office Courts Division?

The County Clerk's Courts Division is located on the second floor of the Williamson County Justice Center at 405 MLK, Georgetown, Texas 78626. To contact the County Clerk's office, please call 512-943-1150 from the Austin Metro area or email Misdemeanors Division. The County Clerk's office is open every day from 8 am to 5 pm. Monday through Friday, except holidays. Our office is open during lunch.

21. Where is the Hot Check Department?

The Hot Check Department is located in the County Attorney's Office in the Williamson County Justice Center at 405 Martin Luther King in Georgetown.

23. Where do I file an Occupational License?

Occupational licenses are now filed through the Civil Section of the County Clerk's office for misdemeanor criminal cases. It is located on the second floor of the Williamson County Justice Center at 405 Martin Luther King in Georgetown.
