Williamson County is the recipient of the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA). This is the 13th consecutive year Williamson County has received this award which reflects the commitment of the county and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting.
In order to receive the budget award, Williamson County had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as:
• A policy document
• A financial plan
• An operations guide
• A communications device
Budget documents must be rated “proficient” in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.
Williamson County has earned GFOA’s Triple Crown for receiving all three of the GFOA awards: Excellence in Financial Reporting Award, Popular Annual Financial Reporting Award and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.
“Transparency and accountability in county government are extremely important. We are honored to receive this distinguished award for 13 years. It is a testament to the strong support we receive from our Commissioners Court and county leaders who partner with us in establishing a fiscally responsible budget,” Budget Officer Ashlie Holladay stated. “Our goal is to make all budget information easily accessible to the public through our budget website. This level of transparency provides our residents with the financial reassurance that they deserve.”
All budget information is available on the https://www.wilcotx.gov/budget to include overviews, timelines as well as a Citizens’ Corner designed to deliver accountability and confidence at every level.
The Government Finance Officers Association is a nonprofit professional association serving over 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America. The GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
