Williamson County’s website has gone through some visible changes that also provide significant behind-the-scenes improvements for users. The refreshed website touts a new address, new content management system and a new design. The county’s website can now be found at www.wilcotx.gov., although redirects will take visitors there from the old site www.wilco.org for several weeks. The change was made to improve security and searchability of the site. The website move also comes with a change in the content management system to improve stability with fewer interruptions in service. Finally, the overall appearance of the site has been refreshed to include the new county branding.
“The website redesign was conducted primarily to increase stability and security of the website,” said Williamson County Chief Information Officer Richard Semple. “Only qualified U.S.-based government agencies are approved to use .gov addresses. Moving to a .gov address ensures our visitors that this is an official county government website.”
The .gov address improves security as .gov domains cannot be purchased, so cybercriminals cannot easily impersonate a government website. This helps residents to more easily identify a trusted county link and protects them from a fraudulent website posing as the county.
Anyone with an online bookmark for the Williamson County website is asked to update their link to the new www.wilcotx.gov site.
“We are excited to launch the new branding for the county with our wilcotx.gov website,” said Connie Odom, director of Communications and Media Relations for Williamson County. “The refreshed logo and colors were selected to better depict Williamson County as approachable, trustworthy and professional. We will slowly incorporate the new branding into our operations and items will be replaced over time.”
Williamson County will transition email and other web addresses over to the new wilcotx.gov addresses in the near future. In the meantime, please continue to use the wilco.org email addresses to contact County staff.
