Commissioners Court Approves Salary Increases for Law Enforcement and Corrections

The Williamson County Commissioners Court approved changes to the law enforcement and corrections salary charts as a result of a salary study comparing Williamson County salaries to others in the area. The increases will take effect Feb. 3, 2023. Changes to the corrections pay chart will make Williamson County have the highest starting salary for corrections officers in the region. Currently, Williamson County has 62 vacancies for corrections officer positions.

“When other governmental entities in our region worked to defund the police, I made a commitment to law enforcement that I would not do that in Williamson County. I am tired of governments not standing behind those who protect us,” said Williamson County Judge Bill Gravell. “We will be using a little funding from our cash reserves, but I can’t think of a better capital investment than to invest in our law enforcement. Thank you for serving the citizens of Williamson County.”

In the fiscal year 2022-2023 budget, the Commissioners Court allocated $1,154,446.26 for mid-year law enforcement and corrections salary increases based on the salary study. The approved salaries create an additional expense of approximately $2,471,772.13. The shortfall will be filled by using dollars from unpaid law enforcement and corrections surplus salaries, an additional $100,000 from money designated to implement other salary study changes this fiscal year, as well as approximately $280,000 from cash reserves.
