Ribbon Cutting Held for Southwest Williamson County Regional Park Sports Fields and Courts Lighting

SWWCRP1

Williamson County held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of the sports fields and courts lighting project at Southwest Williamson County Regional Park in Leander.

The lighting project upgraded the existing football, softball and soccer fields and tennis and basketball courts lighting to LED lights. The new lights significantly improve visibility, reduce light pollution and provide energy savings. Southwest Williamson County Regional Park originally had about 320 fixtures, mostly 1,500-watt and a few 1,000-watt fixtures. They were replaced with 196 fixtures that are all lower wattage. It is estimated that the park will realize an approximate 55% energy savings.

“With $1.1 million, the county was able to increase nighttime visibility while reducing energy use thereby saving money,” said Williamson County Precinct 3 Commissioner Valerie Covey. “I’m happy to see the completion of this FY 23 capital improvement project. I am thankful for everyone who played a role in making this project a reality.”

The contractor was BJ Electric. The lighting supplier was Musco Lighting. The construction cost was $1.1 million and was funded through Williamson County’s FY23 Capital Improvement Project funding.
