Williamson County held a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of Segment 1 of East Wilco Highway.
East Wilco Highway Segment 1 is a new roadway with one lane in each direction and a center turn lane from CR 138 at Dana Dr. to CR 137. This project also included widening the existing CR 138 to add a dedicated right-turn lane from westbound CR 138 to northbound SH 130 and resurfacing and restriping the pavement in front of the Lakeside Estates neighborhood. This part of the project will be completed in the coming weeks.
“We are keeping up with our growth on the eastern part of Williamson County,” said Williamson County Precinct 4 Commissioner Russ Boles. “Our primary goal is to keep everyone safe by shortening our emergency services response time. We also want to ensure our constituents make it home in a reasonable time to enjoy their quality family time.”
The project was designed by RTG, and the contractor was James Construction and Chasco. The construction cost is approximately $13.64 million and is funded through the voter-approved 2019 Road Bond.
Also under construction is Segment 3 of the East Wilco Highway from FM 3349 north to US 79. This project includes a bridge over US 79 and the Union Pacific Railroad. The project is estimated to be completed in summer 2025. Segment 2 is the link between these projects and is included in proposed projects for the Nov. 7 bond election. When these segments are fully completed, the East Wilco Highway will connect SH 130 to Highway 79 between Hutto and Taylor, bringing relief to traffic on Highway 79 in this fast- growing area of Williamson County.
