[ARCHIVED] WilCo Celebrates Completion of River Ranch County Park

Add a title

Williamson County celebrated the opening of River Ranch County Park, the county’s newest and largest park located at 194 Reveille Way in Liberty Hill, with a ribbon cutting ceremony on July 21.

"Today, we celebrated the grand opening of the extraordinary treasure, River Ranch County Park.  It is a tapestry of natural wonders that will captivate and delight Williamson County residents for generations to come," said Precinct 2 Commissioner Cynthia Long.

The park is comprised of more than 1,354 acres of meadowlands, woodlands, hills and escarpments, providing hill country vistas between Leander and Liberty Hill. The south fork of the San Gabriel River meanders through the northeastern portion of the park.

"I am really excited to open River Ranch County Park. As an avid park user, I am very proud of the experience we are providing, and it will be the crown jewel of Central Texas," said County Judge Bill Gravell.

The park was made possible through voter-approved bonds. The park includes a playground, pavilions and opportunities to camp, hike, bike, ride horses and nature watch. The park also includes an approximately 4,800 square foot interpretive center. Hands-on exhibits will be added to the interpretive center in the near future where visitors can learn about the natural, cultural and historic resources that make the park special.

“The opening of River Ranch has been much anticipated for some time now.  Our team is super excited to open the gates to this Williamson County gem and look forward to seeing visitors of all ages enjoy the beauty and vastness of this park,” said Parks Director Russell Fishbeck. “It is truly a treasure and a place to escape, yet will be so close to home for many residents.”

River Ranch County Park will celebrate its opening to the public on Saturday, July 22, and Sunday, July 23, with a variety of special activities. Park hours are 7:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with doors closing to incoming traffic at 9 p.m. For more information on the grand opening, visit www.wilcotx.gov.

The day-use fee for River Ranch County Park is $4 for adults. Children ages 12 and under are free, while adults ages 65 and older are $2. To view fees for tent campsites, RV campsites and more, visit www.wilcotx.gov/parks.
