- We highly recommend scheduling your payment sufficiently in advance of the due date to allow adequate time for your financial institution to process your request.
- Check to see if your bank postmarks all check payments with the U.S. Postal Service. Beware - payments arriving without a postmark are considered paid on the date they are received, as required by law, and are subject to penalties and interest.
Please note: Pre-Payment is an option for taxpayers to have the flexibility to pay any amount at any time towards their future taxes. If the total amount of pre-payments is not sufficient to pay the taxes in full, the taxpayer is responsible to pay the remaining balance by January 31.
Requirements
- Current and prior taxes must not be delinquent
- We must have consent from the payer to apply for the money as a prepayment.
- Make a notation on the check or envelope indicating this is a prepayment. If not your payment will be returned as a "duplicate payment".
Payment Options
- In Person
- Dropbox
Once the tax bill is prepared, the collector shall apply the fund towards the taxes imposed.
- An original bill will be sent to all taxpayers that have participated in this program.
- If an overpayment applies, the taxpayer will receive a refund, receipt, and original tax bill.
- If the total amount of pre-payments is not sufficient to pay the taxes in full, the taxpayer is responsible to pay the remaining balance by January 31.
Taxpayers may enter into a contract with the Williamson County Tax Assessor/Collector for monthly deposits into a tax escrow account. The payments shall be based on an estimate using the previous year's tax amount paid.
Initiate an Escrow Contract
- Current and prior year taxes must not be delinquent.
- The payments must be automatically debited from the taxpayer's checking or savings account.
- Payment is automatically debited on the 10th of each month.
Payment & Refunds
Once the tax bill is prepared, the collector shall apply the escrow funds toward the taxes imposed and deliver a tax receipt(s) to the owner. Any excess funds will remain in their escrow account and be applied to the next tax bill unless the taxpayer(s) requests in writing that the overage is refunded.
If the total amount in the taxpayer's escrow account is not sufficient to pay the taxes in full, the Collector shall notify the taxpayer regarding the remaining balance in October or soon after and will deduct the remaining balance due in November, and at that time will deliver a tax receipt(s) to the owner(s).
Withdraw
The taxpayer may withdraw the entire balance of funds from the escrow account at any time before October 1st or before tax bills are issued, whichever is earlier. Partial withdrawals are not allowed. Withdrawal of funds from the escrow account will render the escrow contract null and void for that tax year.
For more information, please view the Monthly Escrow Program Information Sheet (PDF). If you have further questions or concerns regarding the escrow payment option, contact the Williamson County Tax office at 512-943-1601 or by emailing Escrow.
We do accept partial payments, per Tax Code Section 31.07 Acceptance of a partial payment does not affect the date that the tax becomes delinquent. Penalties and interest are incurred on the portion of the tax that remains unpaid on the date the tax becomes delinquent.
Quarter installments allow individuals whose property qualifies for either the over-65, disabled person, or disabled veteran exemption to choose an installment payment option for the taxes due on the property in which the exemption is claimed per Sec. 31.031 of the Property Tax Code.
Please note: This installment plan divides the total tax bill into four equal payments that are due on the following dates:
- 1st installment is due on January 31
- 2nd installment is due on March 31
- 3rd installment is due on May 31
- 4th and final installment is due on July 31
In order to avoid penalty and interest, the first installment payment must be received or postmarked by the United States Postal Service by January 31st. To ensure your payment is processed accurately, please provide the property address or quick ref ID/Account on the check.
The first installment will be accepted after January 31st and before March 1st. However, a 6% penalty and 1% interest will be assessed for the month of February and the next installment will be due by March 31st. If your payment is not received by the required date or postmarked, you will not be eligible for the installment plan.
If the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th installments are not paid timely, a 6% penalty and interest in the amount of 1% per month will be assessed until the delinquency is paid.
The Tax Collector may enter into an agreement with a person delinquent for the payment of tax, penalty, and interest on which their homestead is claimed, per Sec. 33.02 of the Texas Property Tax Code.
