The Williamson County Fire Marshal's Office operates the Hazardous Materials Response Team for Williamson County. The Williamson County Hazardous Materials Team consists of 6 apparatus and 60 Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) certified hazardous materials technicians that are on duty every day to provide the residents of Williamson County 24 hours a day, 7 days a week coverage. The team equipment and personnel are housed in six separate fire stations located in Cedar Park, Georgetown, Hutto, Leander, Round Rock, and Taylor. These Fire Departments provide the personnel to staff the Hazmat team and Williamson County provides the equipment and training as well as providing a Captain and Assistant Chief to oversee the team in a joint effort to provide Hazmat response to the residents of Williamson County and the 10 County Capitol Area Council of Governments (CAPCOG) Region which includes - Bastrop, Blanco, Burnet, Caldwell, Fayette, Hays, Lee, Llano and Travis, and Williamson counties. The team is managed by the County Fire Marshal, Assistant Chief, and Captain over Special Operations.
The members of the team are trained to some of the highest standards in the hazardous materials response field. The Williamson County Hazardous Materials Response Team has access to some of the newest equipment and technology available such as Ramen and FTIR to assist in identifying unknown chemical or biological agents. In addition, the teams utilize several types of vehicles for a wide range of hazardous materials missions.
